Spotlight Series: Scooby-Doo! Betrayal at Mystery Mansion!
One of the world’s best storytelling games gets an upgrade! Betrayal at House on the Hill is a unique must-have experience. It offers the unpredictable twists and turns of a haunted house story. This weekend, it gets even better! Betrayal at House on the Hill gets a Scooby-Doo makeover with Scooby-Doo: Betrayal at Mystery Mansion!
Each player takes on the role of a Mystery, Inc. character and begins exploring a haunted house. Players randomly find Clues throughout the house, like the original Betrayal at House on the Hill. Eventually, one of the gang disappears, and a villain takes their place! One player takes control of the villain and the race to victory begins!
The differences between the original House on the Hill and the new Mystery Mansion editions are, thankfully, minor improvements. Players choose one of five different types of Haunt at the beginning of the game. Different Haunt types offer a different complexity level so younger players can play with adults. When the Haunt is revealed, both hero and villain players read their new rules together. This is another change to help out younger players.
As with any kind of gaming, people are usually skeptical of games published as part of a franchise. It’s common to publish a low-quality game and rely on the franchise to make your game profitable. However, when you have an already proven game like Betrayal, then later add a fun, popular franchise like Scooby-Doo, you get the best of both worlds!
